The British film costume challenge

The UK has long been the destination of choice for film-makers in search of authentic period costumes and the experts who supply them. However, the country's costume designers are increasingly recognized for their work in a variety of genres, from epic fantasy dramas such as Game of Thrones to stylish modern thrillers such as Ex Machina.

As well as acclaimed work in feature films around the world, British costume designers are also making waves in high-end TV dramas. Michele Clapton, for example, won two Emmys for her groundbreaking costume design in Seasons One through five of Game of Thrones, where she created a stunning array of looks in the show's different worlds. "Fantasy clothing used to get very little attention, but Game of Thrones has taken it to a new level and has had a huge impact on the way all collections are designed now," said Clapton, who previously spent seven years designing for the show. Decided she was ready for a new challenge.
